Age Groups

The FDBA competition is an under-age competition and teams are made up according to birth year.

For 2016 Winter teams the age groups are:

  • U8 2009/10 birth year
  • U10 bottom age 2008
  • U10 top age 2007
  • U12 bottom age 2006
  • U12 top age 2005
  • U14 bottom age 2004
  • U14 top age 2003

It is possible for a young child in a school year with a later birth year to play up a year level but it is not possible for an older child to play down a year level in a younger age group.

Ball Size / Ring Height

U8: size 5 ball, lowered ring

U10 and older: size 6 ball, standard ring height

Player Insurance

As a registered player with the FDBA, part of your weekly registration fee pays for player insurance.

Basketball Victoria's insurance provider is Horsell International. All claims will need to be sent directly to the Horsell Sydney office at the following address:
